REVIEW

With brief words from Joanne Rogers, widow of Fred Rogers, she shares with much intimacy her deepest thoughts that reflect upon the wisdom that he bestowed throughout his life and in his beloved television program. Mrs. Rogers reminisces of her and Mr. Rogers's life as far back as his childhood and the vivid memories and the people that he met along the way. Fittingly, the title of the book "Life's Journeys According to Mister Rogers: Things to Remember Along the Way contains a large sample of the words that he lived by on and off the camera within its concise format. Reading the thoughts of Mister Rogers are as relevant today as they were spoken many years ago. What resonates spans beyond philosophical and religious lines as Rogers was also a Presbyterian Minister, and with that in mind his philosophy flowed simply in human terms much like the golden rule. Be it through the written word or through song, he had a way to convey the message and meaning and within the book are three songs that are reflective, "When the Day Turns Into Night" and "Please Don't Think It's Funny" and "I'm Proud of You." For readers old enough to remember, the Mister Rogers show contained a cavalcade of creative artists and musicians to Yo-You Ma to a variety of jazz musicians such as Wynton Marsalis and many more. Mister Rogers emphasized community and what makes one live and thrive within unselfish and compassionate ways. He had a way to confront issues and make important points of being oneself. For example, among the many quotes in the book Mister Rogers had an uncanny way to express, "Let your imagination help you to know the truth about your identity" (Kindle location 212-16). And after reading the book, one take note of the three ways to success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to to be kind. The third way is to be kind. Indeed, Mister Rogers viewed his world from all sides and in essence, one may say he saw everyone as human and lessons that may also be learned along the way.
